I was wondering if anyone teaching in Laos can provide me with an overview of the quality of the internet connections available in Vientiane and the other metropolitan areas. I'm considering teaching there next year after my contract in Korea expires, but I need to be able to download video lectures and do research on the net for my online degree. So, a stable and semi-fast connection is a must. Any information would be appreciated.

We had a Lao Telecom connection initially and that was unreliable. We switched to a comany that provides wirless connectivity to a home-based Wifi router that settled down to be reliable and fast. I can't remember the name but i think it was something like PlanetMax.
Expensive by Lao standards (compared to beer, etc) but similar to other countries.
