When you talk about TEFL salaries in China, anyone who uses generalizations is not in the know.

SAFEA does have salary guidelines. However, every province adjusts according to local economic conditions.

However, in most, if not all provinces there is a certain hierarchy of salaries, although there are exceptions. The following is simply my observation:

International schools
Kindergartens
Joint Venture Universities
Training Centers
Language mills or McEnglish schools
Public primary and middle schools.
Public Universities
Famous Public Universities (You should pay them for the honor)

It is also my experience that the higher salary also requires more teaching hours, office hours and extra activity hours. There is also usually more chaos.

What amazes me is the number of unqualified, who seek the highest paying jobs, and get them. I kick back and wait to laugh when they do the inevitable midnight runner due to some failure on the employers part. AND THE BEAT GOES ON!
