Sorry, but this doesn't make any sense. You say that you have been offered a contract... for April? That is a very odd time to be hiring teachers... a couple months before year end?
And why would you then apply to the UAE embassy? Apply to them for what? They don't hire teachers for international schools. Not to mention that the UAE Embassy is in Washington DC.
I am definitely thinking this might be a scam. Please give us more details. If they are asking you to pay for a visa before leaving... it is definitely a scam. Is this supposed to be the Dubai British School? See the scam threat at the top of the page.
DO NOT SEND MONEY!!!
No teacher hired in the the UAE pays for any visas... ever!!

I applied about two months ago. Then I received an email asking if I was still interested which I said yes. Then I received a contract offer this morning. They gave me a hot link it is UAEEMBASSY which I clicked on but the site askes for me to pay a fee for the work visa. When they asked for money I became suspicious and have not sent anything. I will contact UAE Embassy Monday morning to address this. Thank You

You do not need to bother the embassy. 100%... it is a scam. There is NO education employer in the UAE that will EVER ask you to pay for a visa. The money will go straight to your friendly Nigerian scammers.
See the "sticky" thread above. You have thus far applied to two places that are scams. I read back over your posts and your problem is that you do not have the credentials for the UAE and you will very likely not get any legitimate offers.
I think you need to either get an MA in ESL/EFL/Applied Linguistics or get an official Canadian teacher's certificate/license in order to get an acceptable offer from a legitimate employer.

This totally sucks!! I saw an ad for an ESL teacher at this school and applied and spent 2 days answering their 20 essay questions but then as soon as I submitted them I got a contract emailed to me promising $4850 per month - written in really bad English and also a link to the UAE embassy web page. I wasted time and hopes on this. Don't do it!!!
Dave - FYI, the job that I applied for was advertised on your website. I know it's not your fault but you need to be aware of this! |

I beg to differ. Plenty of us end up paying for our own visas once we are in the country; UAEU is one institution which requires staff to pay for their visas. |

Did you have to pay for a visa to get into the country? That is, of course, the key here. With the scams, you pay money (over $300-500) up front from home, and get neither a visa nor a job. How much do you pay for a work visa?
Mr Bubble... another key is if the offer sounds too good to be true. If they are suggesting that you will get over $3500-5000 a month and you don't have good professional credentials - a teaching cert/license and/or a related MA and 3-5 good solid years of also related experience, it will be a scam.

I read this as meaning never, i.e. not under any circumstances whether before or after arrival in the UAE.

I think the law requires employers to pay for residence visas, but federal institutions seem to be above the law. |

Scam.
The British School Al Khubairat (which is in AD) would not offer you a job without an interview. Also, I can't work out how VS knows you're Canadian, but BSAK only employs UK-trained teachers.
There are other British schools in AD about which I know nothing but this has got to be a scam. |

It's not that I'm psychic...  I was going by the location under her screen name which says "Calgary."

(iamherebecause: neither ZU nor HCT requires teachers to pay anything and they too are government under MoHE same as UAEU. Only scams have you arranging your own visa with a supposed "ministry" email and send money before you leave your home country.) |

I got exactly that same response from the British School in Dubai from a person named Paul Coackley. Everything written in this thread fits the bill, 4850$, too-good-to-be-true, bad-English-questionnaire, etc. The hot link is also from some free web hosting service requiring applicants to send 1680 AED to a guy named Abubakar Musa. Everything in this e-mail seems sketchy; however, there is a British School in AD, etc.
Any more information welcome. Please recommend if we should contact the British School or if this is just a scam artiste thingy. |

They already know... if you look around on their website, it might even be noted. I know the Dubai British School that they also used for scamming had a note on their site. See the scam sticky at the top of the page.
NEVER SEND MONEY TO PAY FOR A VISA OR ANYTHING ELSE!!
This ad also had the giveaway .tk website address.

It's a scam. But contact the school directly if you want, they would probably be interested to know their name is being abused.
Of course, don't rely on contact details in any email sent to you, look them up independently. |
