We do now, zipper. I just don't care anymore. I am very abusive and basically burn all bridges. I give people one chance and approach them politely and ask about the noise. Most of the time they deny it. We moved into a new place here and some children downstairs run around and this actually echoes up and vibrates into our apartment. I now shout out the window using abusive words (they sometimes run at midnight) or make my own noise. Things are MUCH better now compared to when we first moved in. It is the one thing I hate about Taiwan, living in these cement boxes that cost the earth and are complete shit. |

The thing that really pisses me off is huge fireworks detonations at 3:00 AM right outside my window. And foghorns on Maersk container ships one hour later. I guess this is par for the course when you live on an island at the mouth of a major seaport.
I have never had neighbors that were so loud as to make me complain about noise.
One time, I had a neighbor (when I lived in a goshiwon in Korea with thin walls) who had this alarm that would go off repeatedly that had the sounds of women screaming and swords clashing. So I just banged on the wall and he shut the damn thing up.
By contrast, I used to get noise complaints all the time. There was this princessy girl at a hasukjip in Korea who complained that the clinking of my chopsticks and spoons when I ate at night was too loud, and would come out and complain when I ate by myself in the common kitchen. She even complained straight to the landlady. I had to move out of there after that, because the landlady's complaints and intrusive behavior simply became unbearable (randomly coming into my room while I was out and turning things off, complaining about everything everyday, etc.).
My personal philosophy is "don't make an issue unless you absolutely can't work around it." If you're losing hours of sleep every night, okay. I think some people (like that princessy hasukjip girl) just complain recreationally, because they're bored, though. |
