Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has every worked for Peppy kids club. I am considering applying for a postion with them through Go Teach Abroad and I was hoping someone could tell me about their experience working with the institution (and/or their experience with the hiring agency). They seem to offer positions in more than one city in Japan.
I am doing some research to find out what city might be a good place to work in for someone who has never worked in Japan before. I would really appreciate any thoughts or advice. |

Have you any experience at all? What is your background?
I'd say the first piece of advice to give is to learn the market here a bit. Now is crucial because of the glut of teachers here.
Second, decide what sort of climate you prefer or can't stand and tell us. Japan has it all.
Third, let us know what sort of teaching jobs you are interested in. Maybe your background is suitable, maybe not.
Fourth, decide whether you can come here to look around or if your financial status binds you to your homeland.
Fifth, pick a time you'd like to come. There are good and bad times of the year. |

if you don't like teaching kids don't even consider it.......and if things haven't changed you will have to train in Nagoya for a week or more.....then you will start your job at your assigned city.......which could be anywhere. |

I have a few friends that work or have worked at Peppy. Yes, the job is 100% kids. If you can't stand kids, forget it. Having said that, the job is one of the lightest schedules around. The teachers generally only have 3-4 lessons a day. The downside is that the teachers work at various branches and commute times vary from a 10-minute bike ride to an hour train ride.
Also, the OP mentioned placement. I don't think teachers get much say about where they are placed. The company sends you where they need you. You may get to make a request about city versus country or Kansai versus Chuubu, etc.
Some of my friends stayed a year and left disgruntled and some stayed for 5-6 years. Depends on a lot of factors, one of which is your attitude. |

I have in fact taught kids and teenagers when I started university but my most recent experience has been teaching ESL adult classes as well as working as a language assistant at a university. I was originally thinking I might find an institution in Japan that teaches professionals, but I can't seem to find across any academy that focuses on adults.
I didn't realize I would have to keep moving with Peppy kids....I thought they assigned you to one location and you stayed for the duration of the contract. I am not very picky about location, but I thought it just might be easier for the first year if I am not in the countryside, at least unitl I have picked up some japanese.
Are there classes available that I would be able to learn japanese? |

Wait so you move around and teach in different locations?
Thats kind of strange.
I've actually got an an interview with PKC on Thursday, and I'm a bit edgy now, because I was just looking for some more information on this company and I found some very negative posts on some other sites.
Although, I took that with a grain of salt since it did seem that the poster was just very bitter, and some remarks were outlandish. . . but still. . . it threw me a bit.
Has anyone else here taught for them?
EDIT:
Oh yeah, also does anyone know if they have any teaching positions offered in or near Osaka? |
