Please don't chastise me for posting this thread. I am a 22 year old, m, American, finishing up a TEFL certification course in Smara, Costa Rica (Costa Rica TEFL - 160 hrs) by March 2010. Course was great, instructors were great, definitely feel prepared to take on teaching TEFL. Don't have prior teaching experience, but have a BA in International Affairs and experience studying abroad in Argentina. Moderate Spanish proficiency.

Just curious as to jobs near the beach (who isn't, right?). Don't have many prerequisites, just would very much prefer living anywhere near the coast in Mexico, Central America, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and possibly Chile. I have listed so many countries because from what I've learned about Costa Rica, finding a school near the coast is difficult.

Thought it might be worth a try to post this and see if anyone has any specific advice, or direction for me to look in.

I know of one up in Piura Peru, not on the coast, but about two hours away. Would that interest you?

Actually, heading to the major cities in Peru, Piura, Chiclayo, Trujillo , Lima or Arequipa would put you kind of close to the beach.

If you are still looking, I know of some *POSSIBLE* positions opening up here in Guayaquil, Ecuador. If still interested PM me and I'll rope up some details.

I am looking.... if you don't mind!

I am unable to send out a personal message as of yet. My email is [email protected]

I am looking for a TEFL/TESL job on the coast and would prefer Ecuador. I do not have a degree, however I do have a TESOL certificate.

Thanks in advance if you are able to help me at all.

Regards,
Dallas

Out of the cities Naturegirl mentioned, I would emphasize Trujillo, Peru. I think a lot of people enjoy their time there and it's an easy 15 min minibus ride to Huanchaco, which is a small beach town I really like with some decent (if from West coast, 'good' if from the East) surfing. Other good surfing spots within a few hours of it too.

I also taught for the Canadian House Center in Loja, Ecuador, which is in the mountains, but while I was there they opened another location in Machala. Maybe worth checking out. It was a really fun, easy going, socially oriented language school. A few of the teachers moved out to the coastal location and loved it. I've got a British friend, life-ling ESL teacher, who said he could see himself spending several years there.
