Sunny, you've been such a good model of someone doing their research, and asking good questions, I'm surprised you didn't figure this one out yourself (but I guess you wanted to hear something, first hand). Colima is said to be the place more Mexicans mention when asked where they'd like to live, if they were free to choose. It sits in the mountains, so the climate is said to be mild, but it also sits at the foot of an active volcano, not something that everyone would feel comfortable with. The area looks lovely in videos available online. It's said to be small, with few expats living there.
Tampico is on the gulf coast, and is said to be a somewhat industrial city, with a very humid climate. The contrast between the two must be great, making it easier to choose.
Have you gotten a job offer in Colima? You didn't say. |

I disagree that there is a great weather contrast. The climate in Colima city is far from mild. It's actually as hot as heck, and quite humid as well, given it's position near the Pacific coast. (The state of Colima meets the ocean.) Being inland, Colima city doesn't have the advantage of ocean breezes and in fact can be hotter than at the coast. I've heard it described as "stifling". If you were choosing one over the other for climate, then it's probably not going to make a huge difference.
Check to see which state has the best electricity subsidy for the summer months when air conditioning is a must, if you are on a budget. That can make a difference. That and the job opportunities. It's nice, but there is very little English spoken in Colima city so that's another factor to consider. |
