I am currently filling out applications to teach english in Spain from October of 2011 until May of 2012.
Do you guys worry about how the economy is doing over there? I need to convince family members that I will be fine over there during their potential economic crisis.
Help me out!
Thanks |

You're going to be an illegal worker - meaning that you are going to be more vunerable than the average legal bear. Will you be fine? Just remember, like everywhere else, there are nice Spaniards and arseholes who will take advantage of your lack of legal status, so it all depends on lady luck. The one big disadavantage is that you won't be able to pop on easyjet for a two hour flight home if it all goes *beep* up.
How much money are you coming over with? |

Well, we are assuming that the op will be illegal based on his-her location indicating that he-she is a us citizen. Keep in mind that illegal workers are now at far more risk of being caught than in years past - google schengen zone for the 2009 changes.
OP, if you are a US citizen, you would do well to read through posts on this board about the legalities of trying to teach in Europe these days.
In the case that you have UK or other EU member citizenship, then the economy becomes the only real possible problem. Good timing can help with this - try to get to Spain in time for the Sept-Oct hiring period and you should have a decent shot at a job. Also assuming you have a decent certification. |
