The one I attended went so fast that I felt like I was back in grad school tryin' to scribble down notes as fast as he changed screens. I was unsuccessful. And to think that he is the Ed Tech Chair at HCT Whogivesaphuck.
No handouts...no support. I only go to it for the PeP.

I went to one session that made watching paint dry seem interesting, and intelligent.
I was too busy to attend many sessions, but I did hear that there were some interesting panels.
The winner for most job listings once again went to the Kingdom. Their two boards of postings (every other country had one) reeked of desperation. Some people I spoke with whispered with dread that they might have to resort to interviewing with the Darth Vaders of the dark side of Arabia. |

Desultude,
What are the comparative population figures of the GCC States ? Has it not occurred to you that KSA has a vast population in comparison to the mini-sheikhdoms down the Gulf ?
More people >more kids > more schools > more demand for teachers.
You really need to get over your anti-Saudi obsession, based on a short spell with a rather.......................unfortunate.....................employer ! |

I'm not just speaking of Oman. There were vastly more jobs in the Kingdom listed than anywhere else. I didn't count, but maybe more than the others combined!
My anti-Saudi feelings will continue. It is not an obsession (I rarely think about it except when I check in here). |

I attended.
I went to as many sessions as I could fit in.
All but one were good, several were very good indeed.
I caught up with a number of people and I got another look at Dubai.
This will be unpopular, but I enjoyed itl. I also suggested that many of the people who post on Dave's are "a small group of self-selected malcontents."
The comments on this thread confirm my opinion. |

I went over the posts on this thread again, and find most of them positive. I learned a lot and saw some friends. it was certainly useful, but not perfect, certainly!
I would hope for a different venue next year (one like last year that was in the city and easy to walk to and to get to restaurants etc.). Given that it was on a huge campus outside of town, there needed to be more and better maps, and better coordination of the job fair locations.
In all, it was a successful conference. |

I haven't done the maths either, but a rough calculation would indicate that the population of KSA is greater than that of all the min-Sheikhdoms combined.
So the number of jobs on offer sound very proportionate! |

The Saudis have a lot more military jobs than, say, the Emiratis. I don't know about universities and tertiary colleges, however. There are quite a lot in the Emirates these days when you count the foreign ones. |
