|
|
Hi, can anybody give me some advice on what options there are for getting a TEFL job in AA?
I have moved over here with my family, my wife is a medical professional and I have just completed an online TEFL course hoping to pick up some work.
Any advice or recommendations will be gratefully accepted. |

There are a few things you need to have in consideration.
1. you need an MA (or a CELTA/DELTA) for most tefl jobs.
2. taking an online TEFL certification isn't enough (usually) for most TEFL jobs in the UAE.
3. Al Ain has several different places that you can work in TEFL with the MA and experience/CELTA including
HCT
and

Without a master's plus post grad experience HCT won't look at you unless they are desperate to fill a temporary gap in their staff.
Does Al Ain have a branch of Berlitz? They might take you on as a local hire but they don't pay the best and the hours can be haphazard. |

... how about trying ELS in Al Ain? They've taken on teachers with little experience and minimal qualifications in the past - don't know if they still do. |

There's a branch of ELS - drop by with a cv. There are a few other language schools which teach English e.g. Al Kawarizmi, the Canadian Centre, drop your cv off and then call them regularly to remind them you are available. I know people in a similar position who do private tutoring; OK if you can stand one-to-one teaching. |
