Disclaimer:
Forgive me if this has been asked a million times, but for the record I looked and didn't find it.
I'm working on my CV (resume) and of course I want it to be honest while presenting me in a favorable light.
Can someone help me with a couple of questions, please?
I teach Basic Spanish at my church. Even though it's not teaching English, the fact that I'm teaching something makes it relevant... I guess. The trouble is, I'm just doing it as a volunteer. Is this acceptable to put on a CV?
The other question is that I'm not sure who to put as my second reference. I put the course director as a first reference.
Should I put one of my other Tefl trainers down as the second reference (OF COURSE I would ask their permission!!)? What other people are acceptable for a second reference?
Thanks if you can help me!!
Please don't respond if you have a mean answer!!
Thank you, gracias de antemano

Dear SaratheSlytherin,
"The trouble is, I'm just doing it as a volunteer. Is this acceptable to put on a CV?"
It certainly is.
"Should I put one of my other Tefl trainers down as the second reference (OF COURSE I would ask their permission!!)?
One of your other Tefl trainers would be a good choice.
"What other people are acceptable for a second reference?"
Anyone who's in a position to have observed you and can vouch for your professional ability (but not your Mom )
Regards,
John |

My recommendation is usually to tell people not to put any references on a standard resume. It is assumed that you are a professional and will have 2-3 people to serve that function when and if the time comes. No need to clutter up the resume with names that no one will contact, let alone provide contact info for people that deserve to hear from you first just who is interested. |
