Meten English makes a lousy first impression. I talked to a manager at the Jiangbei center named Adeline who did not know what a CELTA is. She was reluctant to accept this as my TEFL cert, because she had never heard of it. She acted suspicious, like I had purchased a fake cert or something, simply because she was so ignorant. I showed her the cert and she looked really befuddled. Cambridge has a tefl cert? Whadaya know!
Then there were a series of other gaffes on their part which forced me to draw the conclusion that they are either incredibly stressed out and disorganized, or simply mentally ill. I do not intend to find out which. It's easy to overlook one or two examples of human error, but when there a string of these, I assume it is the Universe telling me to watch my arse and to run. I will do without the money or find part time work at some other "school", if that is the correct name for these Chinese English mills. Two years in China and the good old USA is starting to beckon. Not sure I can deal with these bozos like the ones at Meten much longer. I had the thought that if Curly, Larry and Moe were still around, Meten would be a good place for one of their movies. |
