I have been waiting to write this post for the past three years.
As of today I have finally completed my MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL through the University of Leicester.
It's a 3-year distance learning course and having worked full-time plus raised two kids both under ten and completed everything on time, I think I am allowed to blow my own trumpet for 5 minutes.
Damn, I feel good
Now to go get that job! |

Well done!! You must feel very proud. How was the dissertation? How was your advisor? Sorry for asking a million questions, but I'm sitting on a couples offers to do my MA and can't decide what to do. Did you do a distance program on on campus? Tell us more... or send me a PM.
Thanks |

Thanks for your kind words. Dissertation was ok because of good time management. My advisor was simply amazing. I was very lucky and he made all the difference.
I didn't visit the campus but I certainly had the option to.
Go for it. You won't regret it. |

How was Leicester's distance program? Did you use Blackboard? How many of your credits were coursework? Why Leicester? How many hours /week do you think you spend, not including the dissertation? What was the most difficult unit?
I applied to Birmingham, Manchester, Reading and Leicester and 3 schools in Aus...overkill? probably, but I want to keep my options open. My offers so far, are both from Aus schools. There's some great American schools, but out of my price range. I'm Canadian and I'm not impressed by what Canada has to offer for Ma Tesol programs, so I'll be forced to study as an international student. |

Big congrats to you! I finished my MATEFL through the University of Reading in '02 and was so proud to have accomplished it while working full time. Anyway, I have an idea of what you went through.

Well done and congratulations, especially doing it with kids to handle at the same time. |

Hi. Well done.
I'd like to know from any experienced posters how an MA in TESOL sits in the whole teaching English field, like is it more desirable to have an MA over a DELTA, or about the same etc. etc. I'm trying to think ahead. |
