Jack is good. Almost up there with Jim Beam. So I am not doing this poll thing right. Aside from Chinatown what is his best movie??? |

Tough choice - he's in my top five favorite actor list. But, since he seems to get even better as he gets older, I'd pick one of these:
1. As Good as It Gets
2. About Schmidt
3. Something's Gotta Give
and yes, he was in Broadcast News - minor role, however (though with Jack, one recalls that great line from Sunset Blvd.):

About Schmidt, for a little slice of Americana.

I would show batman because the dialogue is simpler and easier to follow. The acting is big and melodramatic, so the students can get the gist of the movie even if they don't understand everything that is said. |

Johnslat took my list, with As Good As It Gets #1. Something's gotta give is good, but I don't know where it went in the third act, somewhere in old lady fantasyland. Also, don't forget that touching/slightly disturbing Diane Keaton nude scene....
but if their anything like my students, maybe Mars attacks is more vivid--but i doubt they could get the subtext. And this movie kind of reinforces the tacky, insipid image of America that is already an obstacle for some of us in China, and other places.
AGAIG or Batman, depending on the students. |

Have you seen his latest? I'm talking about 'Something's gotta give'. It's about as good as any he's done and the film itself is just wonderful and I can't recommend it highly enough - had me in stitches as well as nearly in tears at one point. Because of Diane Keaton's superb performance and the fact that it makes you feel so good without being at all soppy I'd say it's probably the best (certainly the most intelligent) romantic comedy I've seen (calm down Mike). Back to your question I think Nicholson gave his ultimate performance in 'About Schmidt' though he was almost there in 'Chinatown', 'As Good as it Gets', and the superb 'One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest' , still one of my favourite movies of all time. Take ya pick! |

Of those choices, Batman because it is easy and the people should recognize the characters.
As good as it gets, Witches of Eastwick and One Flew Over... would also be good choices.
Mars Attacks!! OI!! no thank you.... |

'Easy Rider' all the way. He was so young, cute and sexy in it.
"To old D.H Lawrence"
'One flew over the Cuckoos Nest' would be my second choice but not 'Batman '. That's crap. I thought he did a good job in 'Anger Managment' though.
Which Divine movie should I show my class?
-Pink Flamingos
-Lust in the Dust
or
-Hairspary |
