Hello all!,
I would appreciate some clarification. I have thought about completing a TEFL certificate with Via Lingua in Istanbul or a course in Seoul. A managing director with Via Lingua told me "In many cases, the employer can transfer your visa to a work visa without you needing to return to the USA."
By contrast, yesterday I was told by an American teacher in Istanbul that he's never heard in any situation of an American teacher NOT having to go back to the U.S.A. to obtain a Turkish work visa. So, I'm confused. ??
It's my understanding that I first have to complete a TEFL certificate to get a work visa to legally teach in Turkey. I would appreciate your feedback.
Thank you |

I don't have a TEFL certificate but I do have a BA in English which is an equivalent for a work visa. I did not need to leave the country to get my residence permit changed to a work visa. I did however have to get a 6 month extension on my residence permit.
a TEFL certificate is a must to work at most of these language schools I do believe. A work visa might not necessarily come with it, though. |
