Hello,

Can anyone offer any insight into working at the University of Tabuk or living in Tabuk? How have you liked it or what have you heard?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

Tabuk is of moderate size and climate-- it's not as hot here. Tabuk is close to the border of Jordan and the staff here have enjoyed vacation time in Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. Tabuk's a nice point of departure for seeing other Middle East countries.
I can't speak to working conditions as there are three ESL departments-- you'll have to be more specific.

Tabuk is surrounded on all sides by at least 100 miles until you see water...

I'm confused again... are you assuming that our poster is looking for a beach city to live in? Shocked

Naw...I'm suggesting that it's stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing but desert around. The only fun that people used to have is by driving down to Jeddah or the occasional out to Jordan or so for a vacation...

I refer to sand as "beach", 'cuz that's essentially what it is...

Opps! I see my error now, I omitted "by beach" after "100 miles"! Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

There used to be a mixed dive club made up of ex pat hospital and BAe staff who ran weekend excursions to dive sites on the coast 50 km or so either side of the port of Duba. Aqaba in Jordan is do-able over a weekend and Amman isn't too far if you have a long weekend. Four of us hired a jeep and Syrian driver who took us to Dasascus and back over a week one time and I made several visits to Jordan by long distance taxi (a private deal with a Jordanian bus driver at the hospital). I am sure the town has changed since I lived there but there used to be 7-8 years ago a limited selection of restaurants and one or two hotels- all segregated. Supermarkets and other shopping and services okay if limited. Contacts are important to have more than a very basic social life...
