I still can't seem to make up my mind between these two places. Confused There are so many things that attract me to both.

But recently somebody told me that if I am not a big fan of the rain then I should avoid Taipei. I don't really care for the rain that much but neither does it bother me. Is Taipei extremely rainy?

Checking its climate info on wikipedia it seems like it could be but of course one day of torrential rain followed by 3 of sunshine is better than 5 days of dreariness so it's hard to know.

How does the weather compare between Taipei and Taichung?

I don't know how much rain Taipei gets compared to Taichung, but I do know Taipei gets all the typhoons that make their way up the east side of the island.

Taichung, on the other hand, is rather well protected from typhoons.

Taipei sits on the bottom of a bowl (we are surrounded by mountains), which means all the humidity and smog are trapped. And yes, it rains a lot here. Yes, it is extremely muggy and sweaty. Expect to sweat profusely your first year or two here.

Sorry, just want to give you some honest advice :p

According to the Govt. central weather bureau from Jan 1st to May 11th 2010 Taipei had the highest precipitation:

Taipei: 562.4 mm

Taichung: 338 mm

Kaohsiung: 61 mm

So, here you all go. Northern Taiwan has had a lot more rain than its southern part so far.

Southern Taiwan will pick up more rain during the Typhoon season.

When I worked in Taipei back in 1994, I used to curse the weather everyday, because of the rain, and when riding a scooter wearing rubber rain pants and a coat staying dry is just a dream, because you will sweat very much.
