Dear Mr. Kalgushki and board,

I'm looking for a young man, aged 27, goes by the nickname "Mac." U.S. citizen, native Alaskan. Recruited from Seattle.

Have you heard of or seen this man? He's about 5' 10", 180 lbs. Apparently was hired by an organization called 'Hess', but he has since disappeared. It's been over three years.

I see Hess is frequently mentioned on this website. Called AIT and they said search here. Mac worked-according to their records-in Xindian, Taipei, and was released after he failed to meet probation.

I think this board should have an explanation since he'd frequented this website often. And Mr. Kalgushki, are you the manager of this website? Do you oversee the well-being of our children in Taiwan, or offer support, since you're in charge?

Sadly, this is not the purpose of this board. It is a community of people who share information about their experiences. There are moderators, who try to enforce posting rules, but that's the extent of their jobs.

As for your search, there was a guy on this board not too long ago, goes by the name Andrew Tiffany, and he was a Hess Recruitment Agent or something along those lines. Maybe you can do a search for his name, and see if you can contact him???

Good luck with your search. Although, if you wanted to disappear from the western world, Taiwan would be a great place to "get off the grid".

I find this very interesting, since I also "failed to meet probation," to put it in your words.

I think a lot of people "fail to meet probation" at Hess. I think they hire more people than they plan to place, and then just see who does the best. MOD EDIT -- I will try to phrase the part that was MOD EDITed more cleanly:
They make us fly around the world, evaluate us, only hire on the upper 2/3 or so (some people even being canned in training, before the first day of work), and say "get out of Taiwan" to the rest and make them buy their plane tickets home in seven days under the threat of NT$20,000 in fines.

I'm sorry, I haven't heard of your son. Just wanted to comment on the probation part. Hess pulls that trick on many people. Some people are fired before working their first day.

Rolling Eyes

And yet you haven't added anything but complaints to this thread. Haven't you explained your feelings about Hess clearly in numerous other threads?

Clearly this person is not interested in your Hess related ranting. If you have information that may help him, then offer it up. If it is the same anti-Hess rhetoric that is typical around here, then save it.

OP, you can also try posting on www.tealit.com, www.forumosa.com, www.kaohsiungliving.com

They are all frequented by people who have, and still do live in Taiwan.

No, I haven't. They destroyed several months of my life and I'm just now getting back on my feet. According to the OP, they did exactly the same thing to his son. Why should I shut up, because you say so?

That may be true, or it may not. However, why would he mention that the same thing happened to his son if he truly didn't care? You can't possibly know one way or the other, so why don't you speak for yourself instead of the OP?

Why? Are you going to tell Powhatan and others like him and I who were fired illegitimately to shut up, too? When someone is wronged, they have a natural tendency to want to let people know about the person/organization who wronged them.

Hess is still in business. They are still conning hundreds of people. They have never apologized to me or compensated me in any way for my hardship. Why should I shut up?

Everyone immediately needs to start addressing the message and not the messenger.

Immediately means right now.

Failure to do so will result in sanctions.

Confused Not saying shut up. Never did.

Please keep the people who are looking for Hess related information aware of the opinions and your experiences!

There isn't a lot of good stuff out there about them, and its awesome to keep the newbie teachers aware of their shenanigans.

That being said, I'm simply saying that not every thread needs to digress to Hess bashing every time the school is mentioned.

Exclamation Again, for the OP: http://iff.immigration.gov.tw/enfront/ Exclamation

OP, you asked in the other forum if Taiwan is safe and politically stable.

Don't worry, yes, it is, and it has been so for years. There aren't any death squads, radical revolutionary factions, major drug cartels, or anything like that here.

Don't you have your son's e-mail address? Messenger screen name?

Why don't you contact the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT)? They're essentially a slightly less official US embassy. Maybe he has registered with them. Many Americans register with the nearest embassy (or AIT in Taiwan) to get notifications.

Of course, the bureaucrat at AIT will probably say, in a surly fashion, "SIR, I CANNOT GIVE YOU THAT INFORMATION."

In that case, have a woman call and claim he owes her child support. Then they'll help immediately. You know how things work with American bureaucrats...

I'm sure that your son is still alive, or *someone* would have notified you, unless he skipped Taiwan and ended up somewhere in the third world.

To the OP

What was his username on this forum? Or how do you know he was using this forum?

What is his name?

My advice is to contact the Hess Main Office's EHRD (English Human Resources Department) and ask them for information.

Good luck!

There are massive snakeheads here in Taiwan, some who use white men/women via organized crime at specific schools under the pretense of government approval, ie., their guanxi and big chains, then balance the odds.. They will discard any individual who protests, therefore, to set a standard with the government and immigration laws. It's sort of like gambling. One chain in particular is familiar with this. But I ask you this, Mr. Swartz.

Was your son into politically movtivated magazines, writing, religious activity? If so, seek the Indonesian community in Taipei, since he'd probably devolved. There's a good hangout aside the main railroad station, and detectives related to this issue.

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. Are you joking or serious?

Why would the Indonesian community be a good place to start looking? So far as I can tell, the OP's son isn't Indonesian...

If I've somehow managed to miss some kind of joke, please explain...

Point 1: His son's native Alaskan. Most likely his son was refused work due to his complexion.

Point 2: His son's been in Taipei. It's quite easy to see he found a way out. Kind of like a mouse, stuck in a little hole, and a mouse trying to escape a big cat.

Point 3: Snakeheads prey on dark-skinned people. They won't touch blacks, no pun intended.

MOD EDIT

Point 5: I'm just a stray.

As badly as I feel for the father looking for his son, your assertion that this board owes him some kind of explanation for his son's disappearance is preposterous.

MOD EDIT

I'm a father, should I offer an explanation as well?
