I've applied to approximately eight Summer Schools and not one has got back to me. One guy sent me an e-mail saying that he had just returned from a trip abroad and that he would be in touch the following week but this was two weeks ago. I have worked at Summer Schools before and usually most of the applications I send out, do receive some sort of response. It is just very frustrating and as most Summer Schools begin next month, I am keen to find something as soon as possible. Has anyone else experienced this and should I contact them and chase them up or just look to apply elsewhere? |

Try sending out more applications. I sent out 45 two weeks ago and have had ten replies so far. Ive already chosen a school to work for now and am still getting offers. Just send applications far and wide - it took me a week of being at my computer typing out the same answers to the same questions. By the end I was answering the question "what makes you think youd be suitable for this position?" with "Im an English teacher." Not quite the paragraphs I had spouted for the previous applications. |

Didn't you save a 'template'? Then you can basically just copy and paste and make little alterations if needed.
OP - I applied for a few Summer schools last year and didn't get any replies. It's frustrating, as even an acknowledgement would have been something.
I guess you just have to work the percentages - send, send, send...... hundreds. |

Most schools by this time will have filled their posts, but will probably be being hit by a fairly high volume of drop-outs too. So if your CV, assuming it's of decent quality, lands in the recruiter's email when someone has just dropped out, you may pick up even a long (for summer!) contract... it's pretty much down to that, and as said before, the key is to send it far and wide. |

Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. It is good to hear that I am not alone in receiving a lack of a response from Summer Schools. A couple have since got back to me but in the main, they are incredibly slow at responding to e-mails, if at all. I agree that sending out as many applications as possible, is key to securing a position for the summer. |

Have you looked at the tefl.com website? There seem to be oodles of summer jobs advertised there. |
