I'm planning to work in D.F. and some people say that it's best to find a job before going down, and some have said it is fairly easy to get work once you are down there (this I know, since I've already lived in Mexico).
What I would like to know is, can I rent an apartment without having a job? What kind of documentation do I need? When I worked before, I had already signed a work contract before going and the employer took care of accomodations.
If I couldn't find a job before going, I was planning on just going and renting a place on a tourist visa and then looking for a job...
Advice? |

In Mexico City you should have a job before you rent a place. Otherwise you might be commuting for 2 hours (or more) each way everyday!
I have never rented an apartment proper... I have either known the person, been introduced or lived in a casa de huespedes... But when I was in TJ I did have a room for $35USD per week.
In fact, it would be best to just come down here, rent a room at a hotel by the week (I rented one downtown for $700 pesos for a week and then I found a long-term place), look for some work and then look for a room/apt. |

Prof. Gringo,
I read on another webpage that is was best to get a job beforehand, but I think the context was for a pretty good job, and that you could get your travel expenses paid this way (Greengates, The American School etc which seem to be among the top schools - my impression is that I don't have the experience for that).
So in your opinion a viable option is renting weekly and looking for a job.
Thanks for the advice.
I think I'm going to change my name to Lic. Wero... |
