I contacted one TEFL program in mexico, and one of the things they said was:
There's no such thing as an
accredited TEFL course, there is no governing body for TEFL
certification
Is this true? It has the 120 hours and training with students. I am just wondering, what should I be looking for in place to get certified in Mexico? |

There is no global governing body for TEFL course providers, correct.
You should look for a good trainer to trainee ratio, a good track record in a course provider - such as having been in business for some time and some recommendations from employers, and openness in answering your questions. Ask to be put in touch with former students and get their opinion. |

Thank you Guy. I've been reading these forums a lot. I change my ideas about where I want to live, but I guess I can find out for sure after I finish my training. I am leaning toward Mexico City or Taipei by the way. I am just really concerned about making enough money in D.F. I am told to expect around 9-11,000 pesos for a job. Most seem to say that should be enough to get by- but barely so (will want a one bedroom apartment near work). |

Depends on how you spend your money, but 9-11k is just fine in DF in my opinion. You can probably earn quite a bit more in Taipei though. |

Well, I'm a single guy so I would expect to spend more on entertainment than someone settled down. I don't know? I don't require a flashy lifestyle though. I was interested in Korea, but people there just don't seem happy for the most part. Taiwan seems like a place where you can do o.k. with what you make and the people that work there seem to like it- that's how I came up with that. I know Mexico and Taiwan are vastly different, just talking out-loud |

If it's at all possible do a CELTA before you get here. It will probably save you a lot of hassle, plus anything that has Cambridge on it will open doors. |

Sounds like Dunham
If you want a cheap, SEP (Mexican Education Ministry) approved TEFL-type course but at a fraction of the cost of a TEFL/CELTA, PM me. |

Actually it was the Teacher Training Center in Quertaro. I am also looking at The Dunham Institute in Chiapa de Corzo and ITTO in Guadalajara. Truth be told I'm leaning toward ITTO. Anymore feedback about any or all of these places would be great. |
