Hello!
I'm looking for some general advice on application timing. I'm currently on a one year contract in Maldives that expires August 1. I have the opportunity to extend the contract until December 15. I could then go home (USA) for the Christmas holiday and start a new job in January. I have a B.S. and a CELTA along with my first year of language school teaching experience (children) here in Maldives to list on my CV.
I definitely don't want to stay in Maldives past December. I've noticed that job advertisements for employers in Indonesia have become kind of sparse over the last 6 months. I have no interest in working for EF and I only want to work in Jakarta or Bogor.
So finally, here's my question. Do language schools in the Jakarta area have a certain time of year where they do more hiring? Would it be easier to find a job that starts in August or one that starts in January/February? I'm guessing the time of year isn't that important but would like to hear other people's opinions.
Thanks! Amber |

January / February would be a little easier, I'd say.
It might be as little difference as makes no difference, but the problem with August is that it's followed (this year) by the the fasting month / holiday week of Ramadan, in September: you'd be taking a compulsory holiday shortly after being employed (great huh!? - - but employers won't share our enthusiasm for that).
So ... January / February.
The bigger factor might possibility of peak / off peak air fare differences.
Also, as an aside, with a BSc (+CELTA +exp.) perhaps you should be considering an International school. English-speaking science teachers are highly sought after in Jakarta. |
