OK: so I've had this bad experience with a chiney uni, seen a place run by certifiable psychopaths and been hit and run. Nothing unique there...

Please give practical advice: is this going to transfer to other gigs in other provinces? Is there some magic computer digit that signals to othersNOT THIS ONE> I think this place invented everything, simply hired too many ft's so decided to get rid of one (me). Just hate to get to, say, Gansu and be turned a way as unemployable.

I'm so short of cash now that going to another country isn't possible till I get some pay from some other chiney school.

Odd life: Until this, I'd never even seen a uni look into my passport --they just wanted an ft-- or been stopped by a cop...

(For details, the complete history is "Paranoia" on this forum)

thanks again, cube

Can you give us some more information. I have read your other post but I couldn't decipher them.

Maybe someone here can help you and give you some practical advice but we need to know what is going on. Were you fired? Did you quit? What kind of visa do you have? What is the expiration date?

Please avoid words like 'chiney'. I am still not sure what it means and I read your post three times.

You said,"I think this place invented everything" What is everything? If they did you should go to SAFEA and file a case against them.

Also, you stated, "Until this, I'd never even seen a uni look into my passport" Um, don't they have to look in your passport to get you a visa?

Sorry, I am not trying to be rude but all of your post here have been cryptic and impossible to comprehend. Give us some concrete details in basic English and we will try to help.

While the post is nonsense and need not be here, especially since there is a clear reference to other posts ... that being said, you truly didn't figure out that "chiney" is China? Rolling Eyes

The imperial "We?" Or, do you think you speak for everyone on this board, know and control everyone's mind?

I don't think you represent everybody.
-------------------

As it turned out, I'd fought so hard (and I choose NOT to give particulars) that the admin. quite switched course. At a meeting today they gushed, "Oh! We're so glad you're here! What? Who told you that your contract was canceled?" Etc. (The admin. had told me, that's who.)

However, while they were trying to dump me/not honor my contract I looked for work and ran into more upsclale schools and am frankly exhausted and angry with this place, ready to dump them.

Take them to court? I'm not eager to fight it out w/ Authorities; not at the below the poverty-line wage I earn. But I will hopefully go, soon and legally, where the pay's much better. I'm not certain that my "records" are lily-pure in China now, and I suspect that that information would follow me to the next job in China. It would be interesting to hear about the PRC"s information trails nowdays and ft's.

Re: the visa. No, "they" (admin) do not put the visa into one's passport; the public security people do. What I did not want to write (tedious to read all this, I'd think) is that fao's and admin. never mention anything they've seen in my passport and appear to have no interest in where I've been or taught. (I think I've been in some interesting countries.) I used to worry that they'd see a visa from someplace not on my cv. But their interest is completely in their own school & in filling a teacher slot.

Thanks cubism

In reference to trying to fix problems through the SAFEA:

Forget SAFEA for anything. It is a worthless organization whose sole purpose is to draw money from the central government. Emails go unanswered.Phone calls--- when someone picks up the phone--- are worthless. You'll be transferred to several people, none of whom possess enough skill in the English language to carry on a conversation.

With luck, someone will give you a fax number for you to send your complaint to "arbitration." That process is also worthless. You can send them copies of your illegally amended contracts, as well as copies of emails from your FAO that indicate that the FAO knew that it was doing wrong, but still, the SAFEA will side with the school. You'll get a phone call telling you how wrong you are to expect the school to honor its contract when it is obvious that you left on your accord (you opened the door to the van when it came to take you to the airport whether you wanted to go or not).

The arbitrator will not divulge his or her name. NOBODY at SAFEA will give you an English or Chinese name.

Yes, some schools are run by psychopaths, and some of your "friends" may actually encourage the administrators' psychopathic behavior.

Cube--- you're not paranoid. That's the way some schools operate. If it decided not to terminate you now, be sure to start looking for another school NOW so that after they've had their way with you, you can collect your release and letter of recommendation and say goodbye.

Is it like Korea where they take you down to immigration and get your visa canceled when you get canned? It happened to me once, and its rather frustrating to say the least.

You clearly know nothing about this. The arbitration board is functionally a different entity and I can document a half-dozen people's cases where they were successful.

I would mostly agree with the former post as I have experience that echos the inability of SAFEA to function as anything other than a suggestion agency serving as a partial regulatory agency dealing with mostly the recruitment of teachers.

"...be sure to start looking for another school NOW so that after they've had their way with you, you can collect your release and letter of recommendation and say goodbye."

And you made another interesting statement: that my "friends' might be aggravating the admin's nutty irrational behavior...How? I do have a wildly conformist friend who roars around the FAO asking for guidance. That kind of thing?

He has also told me that if you are still employed, recruiters won't touch you, won't consider you for work. I haven't had much luck finding a new spot so far, so will ask: could you pls tell me how to go about finding a new job while I'm under contract?

To the person re: is it like in KR wher they haul you down to Immigration and cancel your visa, etc.

They cancel your visa when you leave, usually electronically or so you're not involved; but ithey do it. However, once -- during the earthquake -- I wanted to leave a school for "health" reasons, and they did indeed haul me down to some agency cancelled my visa AND ordered a new one, for which I had to pay $120...

Write me again if I didn't make sense to you. Thanks,

Cube

Decided to get out there, meet other ft's, see other schools. So easy to get claustrophobic with fao's & their insulated world, especially after looney experiences with the cops. I wonder what other people places are out there? Thanks again Cubism
