|
|
I know this may sound odd - and I am only feeling around at the moment...But I am looking at coming over to HCMC to live with my brother and teach.
I have a BA and Grad Dip in TESOL plus many years working in schools here in Australia...
Thing is, I don't want to work full time hours...Is this possible?
Cheers. |

Yes, many schools would prefer part-time teachers because it saves them the headache of guaranteeing hours for full-time contracts, and will cost them less to employ you as you'll probably be responsible for covering your own visa fees (and the company saves on taxes).
Some teachers prefer teaching part-time at multiple schools, just depends on what you want. |

Great news - any schools in particular that might offer part-time? Or is it best to just ask around?
Thinking of applying at RMIT, as I have all the credentials...but not sure of if they offer part-time work... |

If you explore their website you'll find that they do offer part-time work. |

If you're interested in working Saturday + Sunday only (c 12 hours per week) then there a good opportunities in HCMC: PM me if you want further details - I know some decent people/schools who are hiring on this basis at the moment. |

BUT.... are you wanting to teach kids or adults? This will make a big difference as to where you should apply. |

Adult programs are generally weekday evenings. The schools who cater mostly for adults - RMIT, ACET, RAFFLES etc don't work weekends.
You say you don't want to work full time hours. Do you realise that a 'full time' teacher here is 20-25 contact hrs?
I only mention this because i'm Australian and know that my idea of 'full time' before I came to Vietnam was a lot different to what I found here. |

I've been working here in Aust. for years, and yes the teaching contact hours here are also 25 per week - which actually turned out to be MUCH more...what with organising classes/lessons/photocopying/marking tests...I was putting in 8-9 hours days, which is not what I want whilst travelling.
Basically, I am looking for no more than 20 contact hours a week at the present moment. I am also studying via distance education, do not have to pay rent as I am staying with my brother, and so can afford to work minimal hours.
Will try RMIT, as it is within walking distance to my brothers apartment (District 7), which would be ideal...
Otherwise, I am looking for part-time work within/near this district.
Anyone know of any schools nearby?? |

Worth mentioning for anyone interested in weekend-only work - it's ALL teaching kids. If you want to teach adults on that basis, forget it. Kids of all ages but mostly in the younger age group - from 4 years old up to 15 or so. |
