My friend was shorlisted and will have an interview with SQU in London on March. It seems SQU will conduct interviews for various positions (English, Business, Maths, and Engineering).

My friend wants to know if anybody here had an interview with SQU in London, and how was it?

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

007.

007 mentioned engineering.

Any idea of the pay package at SQU for someone with around three years of experience teaching engineering subjects?

Thanks in advance.

I have never seen SQU put a figure for their salary scale in their job advertising.
I guess for their engineering positions, the minimum requirements is a PhD with at least three years of experience (for Assistant professor).

In their advert they put the following:
In addition to competitive tax free salaries (in Oman), the University provides the faculty with annual air tickets, free and furnished housing, free medical care and dental care at a nominal cost in government hospitals and clinics, and end of contract gratuity. Tuition for up to two eligible children is subsidized.

I guess the minimum salary for an Assistant professor with SQU is around OR1200. May be it has increased after the proposed 15% increase?

Thanks for the inf., 007.

I'd expected it to be higher than OR 1,200.

I wonder how much would the children's education subsidy be.

Why not just apply? We don't have many profs of any subject who post here so we know little of the pay scales. In the past, new Asst Profs with little experience started at about the top of the MA scale - which is or was around 1200. (I believe that there was a raise lately) Education allowances are probably acceptable as long as you don't have more than two kids.

Oman has some of the lowest pay in the gulf, but it is somewhat ameliorated by the pleasant lifestyle and people.

Sorry but I can't comment on the London interviews. Both my 'interviews' for SQU jobs were very informal. As always the key is just to have the credentials and experience and be able to answer questions about your field. It probably depends on which department.
