I have come back to work after taking childcare leave to find my classes have been cut by 4 and my pay by 90,000!!! The person employed to cover my leave has got my classes...By law I must get the same pay and circumstances when I come back, apart from if there are financial problems-there are but my classes were still cut. I have tried the talking approach and have been offered no explanation.. I am am considering phoning the labour union today (have already been in touch and they think thisis a strange situation) but don`t really want to take it that far. I have tried my best but I just feel like they are treating me like an idiot. I have always been a good worker, don`t take sick days etc so then only reason I can think of is they want rid of me in case I get pregnant again. What would you do?? Please give me your input...I should add that they did give me 2 hours after school and will pay me for that as extra work (would be better in my basic pay section) but this was to shut me up. What do you think?

Sounds really bad and worthy of taking it to the labor union.
But using threats and such is kind of stupid. If you think it is worthy of involving the Union (which I think it is from what you have said thus far), then do so. If you don't want to take it that far, then just deal with it and smile.

What exactly did it say in your contract or other agreement when you left?

How long were you gone?

Highly possible, as female Japanese workers are treated badly for similar reasons. Have kids, take 18 years off, come back. That's the route if they ever choose to come back.

"No explanation" says nothing to you or us. Have you told, not asked, them that you want your original pay and number of classes?
Was there any agreement that upon your return that you would get the exact classes you left behind, or just the same number of classes?

Aside from "strange situation", what did the labor union say?

This is also not telling us enough of your whole story to be able to offer advice. Help us help you. What were the pre-leave conditions, the contract/agreement clauses, and the exact post-leave conditions?

Sounds like they've got their excuse right there.

Definitely take it to the union though to see if anything can be done.
