Hi,
I'm new here - so please be gentle! I've read around alittle but still cannot find the answer to a question I have. So I need some advice...
I'm in the process of applying for an Educational Technology Co-Ordinator role at HCT in Abu Dhabi.
Does anyone have any incling of what the salary (monthly/annual) might be?
I have a Bsc in IT, and a MA in Online and Distance Education - with 8 years experience specifically in online/distance learning at a UK University. (With about 12 years experience of IT in general before this).
I'm currently based in the UK.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers for your help!

Most of the posts stated that the salary can be from 14,000 to 18,000, so average is 16,000 AED/month plus other benefits including:
-housing
- relocation allowance 30,000 AED
-flight ticket
- children education fees
- covered health insurance |

Thanks for the information.
This position is more of an IT/elearning technologist role rather than a teaching role - so is the 14,000 - 18,000 figure for teaching roles or all roles do you think?
Cheers for your help

The 14,000 - 18,000 figure is for teaching role especially for ESL. But with searching more you can figure out for IT role. My guess for IT can be around 14,000.
I am sure other people living and working there will respond.
Good luck |

HW, the position you mention is listed as a G6 position - i.e. non-teaching faculty - which basically means the salary/benefits are similar to a teaching position.
Good luck with your application!

Thanks NK!
Are the salary scales/grades listed anywhere on the HCT website at all? I had a quick look but with no success.
So is a G6 salary (with all the other benefits) OK to live on in Abu Dhabi?
Where would the accomodation be? Does that depend on which college the job is primarily based at? Do we know which college this job is based at (abu dhabi mens college?) - What type of housing would they offer for me, my partner and my child?
I havent yet got to an interview stage yet but I'm just thinking ahead.
Many thanks for your repies / help really appreciated
Cheers

Hi - re: your "partner" - you do know that you would have to be married to bring your partner with you and live together, don't you? Something else to think about if you are offered the job! Good luck! |

Hi Opti,
Yeah - sorry, I'm engaged at the moment, planning to get married later on in 2009. But I had known about this....
The application deadline is June 30th for this particular job (I've been pre-screened - so I've got along way to go in the application process) so when would the start date be - I believe there are two dates - August and January - so would I be right in thinking that it would be most likely January 2010?
Cheers for all your advice so far,
Cheers,

I've never seen any salary or grades for teachers at HCT on the net (or in writing), and I expect that it is kept pretty secret.
HCT is pretty efficient at getting people in country and working, so there is still a possibility that it could be for August. You may have to hurry up that wedding.

Hi Vs,
How they imagine that some one can move (I assume) overseas in August and just gets a notice in July...that is too stressful and time is so tight....I guess moving by January is reasonable....if not..so might be August 2010..can it be !! |

It's a fact of life in the Gulf unfortunately, ob.
Nothing happening for months / years until a decision is finally made, then everyone running around like blue ***ed flies getting things done.
Good luck, helloworld. |

Yes HW, you are right..can be mostly in January 2010. Since the academic year is finished, most people are or already gone for the summer vacation in June/July. So August has low possibility, however you might be asked to join by August 2009 if they go fast with your application. Typically you can discuss with any employer about the start date and again January 2010 is a reasonable time for both parties. |

but you might want to consider if you want to be "hardnosed" about a Jan10 or Aug 10 start. If they need somebody now, your app will not be kept on hold (unless there are less urgent vacancies in thet system). |

Hi,
Thanks very much for all your help...its been interesting to read.
Does HCT close down in June / July for the summer months? I know obviously students would have gone, but does this apply to staff as well?
I'm hoping it would be Jan 2010 as I only get married in October 2009! But its a very simple quick wedding so it could be moved I guess if really really necessary.
How do HCT conduct interviews? I'm taking it they would do it via video conferencing? Would I be expected to do this at home, or would they hire out a hotel room for the interview to take place via video?
Lots of questions I know, but you all seem a helpful bunch!!!
Cheers again,

Hi HW,
They do not close down in summer...just the process might slow down because some people will go for the vacation. However, I guess recruitment process should be gowing forward, just the pace can be slower...but there is no rule.
From what all members wrote in previous threads, you can be interviewed by video conference in any hotel room close to your address that provides this IT service.....as you are applying to IT position...it might be different
Good luch with your marriage |
