|

I'm going to be coming to Tokyo for a year starting in May, and I'm just starting to think about what to do with all of my (few) possessions here in the U.S.A. As for my desktop computer and ink-jet printer, they're pretty old and wouldn't sell for much, but they suit my needs just fine. Obviously I'm not bringing them with me to Japan, but I'm thinking about just storing them in my family's basement. Does anyone out there think that there would be any problems with them after just sitting there for a year without being used? How about two years (etc.)? Any opinions would be welcome. |

As long as everything is unplugged, the hardware will be fine. However, you would be well advised to burn backups onto CD of any data that is vitally important to you. While the hardware wont suffer any harm from long term storage (not in your lifetme anyway), teh actual data does naturally get corrupted over long periods if not actively used. |
