I'm moving to Muscat in September. Can anyone give me some up to date information on the situation there with renting an apartment? I'm thinking two bedrooms. My job is at the Tourism College which is near the airport, but I wouldn't mind commuting (I think- don't know what the traffic there is like). How much of a deposit is required?

I would also appreciate any info on how much it would cost to rent a small car.

I have looked through the past threads on these topics, but I would really like to get an up to date picture so I can figure out a budget for the move.

Congratulations!

Others will know better than me, but for the sake of at least getting the "reply ball" rolling ...

I expect you can often pay rent monthly. So, a month upfront (and perhaps a similar amount as a deposit) should get a roof over your head.

Commuting (you'll have no problems with the "traffic" unless you're a really slow driver!) is a fine idea - - it'll increase your options, but I'd say USD 1000 / month - even without a long commute - would give you plenty of those.

I don't know about car rental. Cars and petrol generally are good value in the ME.

(Again, others will know better than me so perhaps we should look forward to hearing from them).

Say,Toyota Yaris would cost you OR150 per month. You can get it at the airport. Need a credit card and a driving license. Yes, good if you check the sticker on the door. It says when the car is due to next service.Good luck!
