Hello folks, I'm new on the Vietnam board. I'm here because I am seriously considering changing my location. Vietnam sounds like a beautiful place to work.
My questions include: Where would you suggest to apply?
Why?
Which universities have a good reputation and which pay well?
Any university to avoid?
Are their contracts usually for 1 year or....?
Are private or govt schools better to work for?
Salary is best at __________________?
I've skimmed over the boards yet still have some questions. I've a terminate Master's degree, a TEFL cert., 10 years teaching at universities internationally, have taught journalism and business English as well as the English foundation classes.
I hope to hear from some of you who may be in a similar educational situation and may be able to advise me.
Feel free to PM me with suggestions. Of course salary is important to me as well as the organization for which I would work.
Thanks |

I have no criticism for the op, but you make a good point there SW.
Honestly, you should be moving up in the world. With your exp and edu I would recommend Hong Kong, maybe Singapore, and the like. Vietnam has long been a dodgy, rusty place for people that want to make semi-decent money for a while and then take trips out to TL and CAM. The Vietnamese are enacting laws targeting said foreigners, but I don't feel they've done anything to genuinely improve their country internally. Their socialism means an expensive monopolistic housing market and silly laws. With a masters I'd be doing all I could to make it somewhere better. Anyhow, hopefully someone will either pm you or post some tips that you need. |

OP:
With your education and experience, if you're serious about teaching I would choose another country.
If you are looking for a "cultural" or "learning" experience not centered very much at work, try Vietnam.
Things at the moment are a bit dubious with the new regulations. |
