Hey everyone,
I know there have been threads about Bali before but I couldn't see anything current so I thought it better I ask.
I've been offered a job with EF Bali and I am seriously considering it but the money side of things concerns me. The salary with Bali isn't great (a fair bit less than I have been earning in Jakarta and I assume that is due to low cost of living although I wonder if that is actually the case. People have told me that prices have shot up recently and I'm just wondering how much money one needs to live there?
I'm not a massive party animal but wouldn't mind the occasional night out, foodwise again, local stuff for the most part but Western restaurants occasionally. Also housing. I know they give a housing allowance but is it easy to get somewhere to live there? I've looked on the internet but all I found were massive villas and I can't afford that!
Anyway, thanks in advance guys |

I wouldn't assume that the cost of living is lower; in fact, I think it would be higher. So many applicants want to teach in Bali that companies can pay just about anything. |

Cost of living in Bali is most certainly not low. Especially if you are a bule. Transport costs are very high unless you have your own car or bike. |

Yeah, I figured. The normal salary is like Rp 6.5 mil plus a housing allowance. Is it possible to live on that? |

It's possible to survive on it, though I wonder why anyone would do so without a very pressing reason for wanting to live in Denpasar. |

Hmmm, I guess I need to decide how much I want to live in Bali. It's pretty much a case of Jakarta and better money or Bali and shocking money! |

Not necessarily...if you search other recent threads on here you'll see that some EF schools in Jakarta only pay 6.6 million a month. Admittedly, they provide accomodation but, personally, I'd rather have a housing allowance even if it meant covering some of the rent out of my wage.
I say "go for it"...I'd rather be skint in Bali than Jakarta! |

I knew a guy who was living on 4 million rupiah a month in Bali. He had a motorcycle, rented a small home for 1 million, and the rest of the time lived like an Indonesian. Just depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to have. |
