....you can get little Indians to come and do everything for you in your house, really cheaply, and with appropriate servile behavior (*crack that whip*) |

You guys are really wacky, I mean some of you have been around here for ages in and out of gulf, but you still have the racist stereotype images toward certain group of people like Indians or Filipinos , despite living in a melting pot of intercultural streams,
What a pity! |

because no matter how long I am here, I learn something new every day.
Like beating your wife, forcing her to have an "abortion" by overdosing on pills and then giving your exwife hashish will only get you 4 months in jail, while she is arrested and thrown in jail for 4 years for testing positive for hashish.
Or
How 17 and 18 year old kids can be racing at above 2x the legal speed limit (actually probably closer to 3x the speed limit of 60 kph) and hit an innocent bystander in their car killing them will only get you 3 months in jail because the judges don't want to "ruin the kids lives." |

I agree that this crowd can be pretty wacky. But I'm not sure that what is reflected is necessarily racist stereotype. It is a reality that the local people/companies import thousands from Asia to do most of the real work and I do believe that the emoticon used reflected this posters negative opinion of the mistreatment of so many of them. I left the Gulf with nothing but respect for the hard work of the many I encountered... and a disgust over how so many of them were abused.
But back to the original post:
I "loved" teaching in the UAE because of the high pay and mostly pleasant lifestyle it provided with a long holiday in the summer to escape the heat. And I completely enjoyed the students... the time at the chalkboard was the best part.
(with the usual caveat... from Scot47... pick your masters carefully)
