Hi,
My fiance and I have been advised to bring 200,000 baht with us to start up teaching in Bangkok. (from the guys on ajarn.com)
Is this realistic? We would NEVER have that money.
Thanks |
It all depends on your lifestyle, housing requirements and employer support.
IF you are coming without a job, want a nice (furnished) condo in a nice part of the city and then have to hit the bricks to look for a job it is realistic.
2 months rent for deposit + 2 months rent while you look for a job and wait to get paid (30,000-60,000 baht).
Food for 2 months = 300 baht per day for 60 days (2 people and not extravagant). 15-20000 baht.
Transportation (even as cheap as it is it still costs money to get out job hunting every day then you need money for the commute to and from work after you find a job.
100k baht would be the minimum if you don't have a job lined up for at least one of you before you land.
IF you have a job lined up with employer support for housing assistance and visa/work permit/extension costs then you can get by on as little as 50k baht in your pocket (you are assured of getting paid within a month or so after you land so you are not (literally) eating your savings as you look for work).
