I'm doing the CELTA at IH in Bogota in September. I was wondering if anyone here is also going to be there or if anyone has done it before and has any stories/tips about the course and finding jobs after the course in Colombia.
I also would like to know more about the job market for someone with private teaching experience, a CELTA, some college experience, but no degree.
Thanks! |

I didn't find the CELTA to be too difficult...you just need the discipline to get your work done instead of going out every night. might be difficult for you to be disciplined though if you've just arrived in a new city/country. just be open to criticism, have the ability to be critical of yourself, and pay attention to other people's lessons to notice what they're doing well and not well.
i'm sure IH will hire you once you finish. you MIGHT have a hard time finding a job outside of language institutes if you don't have a university degree, though i know a two people without uni degrees, one with a job in a colegio the other in a uni...they definitely make substantially less money than people in similar jobs with a degree though (probably about half as much). |
