Hi everyone - I'm new to posting to ESL Cafe, though I have been reading it for quite a while. I've been accepted by ECC to go teach in Japan next year, and I just have a question or two. I've done the searches and really can't find the info I need, so I thought I'd ask here!
From what I've read, ECC uses Apollo as the housing agency they're affiliated with in the Kinki region, however I am hoping to get placed within Kanto. Does anyone happen to know what housing agency ECC uses for the Kanto region?
Are you informed of the locations you will be teaching at before you connect with the housing agency (so that you're able to chose a location ideal to your schools)? Are you able to look at images of the apartments and choose from a variety of listings (be a little picky according to your needs), or are you allocated to a particular apartment without getting any real say in the process?
What are people's experiences with the apartments they're provided through ECC's affiliated housing agency in Kanto? I'd love to hear how you fared!
Thanks for reading through the post, and for any replies you may provide. It is very appreciated. |

Are you picky about housing agencies, or something? I don't think ECC forces people to live in their housing (like AEON does). |

I know ECC doesn't force you to live in particular accommodations, I just want to do my research before I go - perhaps look up the agency site (if they have one) and see some examples of the types of places they provide, have a look at a sample contract/look at the terms of the accommodation, etc. Knowing a little more about the process (and hearing how it works, regarding choice/flexibility/etc) would also make me feel a little more secure about going with that option.
I know that I will find out more when I'm put in touch with the housing agency itself, but I'd prefer to go into it somewhat informed - ie, be able to decide beforehand whether I would like to receive accommodations through ECC's affiliated agent or ask them to arrange guest-house accommodation for me and find more permanent accommodation once I arrive. |

Unfortunately, you have very little say on the matter if you choose to use ECC housing. You sign the contract and soon after, you'll get a call telling you where your apartment is. I STRONGLY urge you not to use ECC provided housing. The apartments are terrible, overpriced, and worst of all, you have to stay there for at LEAST three months after moving in so if you don't like it, good luck.
Also, as far as getting placed in the Kanto region, I think your chances are rather slim. Kanto is the area where everyone wants to work, and last I heard, there weren't many openings. Realistically, you'll probably be placed in Kinki. Good luck. |
