The February issue of Australian Outlook magazine stated that demand for ESL teachers will be increasing along with the job growth spurt in other areas Australia is now enjoying. SInce no one has posted in this forum so far this year, is that beacause things are still bad?
International House has a branch in Sydney and claims those who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents can find teaching jobs in Australia if they get their certificate. Have any of you done that? Thanks for your thoughts. |

Hiya Freebeacher,
What's Australian Outlook magazine? As an Australian expat, I'd been interested to read it, if I could get it online.
Thanks,
Lozwich. |

A couple of weeks ago I sent out emails to about a dozen different schools. About half responded, all with your standard 'we have no plans to hire in the near future' reply... |

Lozwich:
Just type in "Australian Outlook" in a search engine. It is published in the UK in paper and online format. I ead the online format, though once I bought the paper format for the travel agency ads.
Each month they have several articles on life in NA and Australia. The reading audience is intended to be folks in the UK, but it's for anyone, really.
Is650, that's not encouraging. Still, it seems logical with migrant numbers high and not all with a high standard of spoken English that ESL would be a good bet. |

Curious. In Brisbane, the standard thing seems to be that DoS's say that, but if you are there, and hand them your resume (and are halfway decent) you can get casual work, and then slowly build up your hours. That's how my colleagues still in Oz have done it anyway.... No idea about the situation in Sydney or other places though.
Good luck,
Lozwich. |
