So, after 11 months of waiting, my mom gets my degree today, which
1. hasn't been signed by the king of Spain like they said, and
2. was issued in January.

In Spain, they put DOB and place of birth. I was born in CA, USA, HOWEVER, according to my lovely MA, I was born in Bagua, Peru. Which, is some dinky town in the Amazons that I've never heard of let alone been to.. HOW they screwed this up is beyond me, especially since I JUST gave them a copy of my passport in July 2009.

So, is it valid?

It makes you appear to possibly be a non-native English speaker. Not a total bad thing, but not really an advantage either.

Dear naturegirl321,

Proving yet once again that Murphy's Law is enforced internationally.

Sorry,

Actually, it WOULD be funny if it wasn't happening to me. It took 2 years of course work and 1.5 to pass my thesis, 11 months of waiting, and for what? A degree that looks fake?

Yep, and it's my American name, not Peruvian one, but I'm just upset at their complete ability to do anything. My proof of graduation said

We certify that Sharon, student of the Master in in TELF (in in and TELF are their mistakes, not my typos) through the University of Jaen.

Yep, that's right they're certifying WHAT? They're missing a VERB in the sentence and that is a translation from Spanish to English. Spanish is their native langauge and they got it wrong. I understand that people make mistakes, however, they need to proof read important docs such as these.

Is it valid? Well...it's not illegal. Or fraudulent.

Does it look good? Not at all. Were I you, I wouldn't use the actual diploma until you get these errors fixed.

Raise hell with the Uni about this. THey richly deserve it.

Best,

Justin

It took 11 months for this degree. Not sure how long it will take them to fix it. here-s the kicker, I don-t show my uni here in Korea my MA degree, I lose my job. I-ve got until August 31st to have this fixed or I get fired.

I already emailed the balck and white scan to the person in charge here in Korea, my mom doesn-t have a color scanner. I just hope they don-t notice the mistake.

And I have emailed ALL admin in Peru and Spain. I-ve heard back from one in Peru, only because she was on my Skype. SHe actually had the indecency to scold me for being upset! I think that wat happened was that they used some program to import infro from Excel to Word. it got thrown off. If that-s the case, then my degree isn-t the only one with mistakes.

I-m pretty sure that they are trying to take an official stance on what they have to do before they email me back. I-m still seething.

What university is this from? I'm in Spain right now...

I don't see how they could have mixed up something as important as personal information.

Universidad de Jaen. I'd be happy to email you a copy of it. What's worse it that I suppose the six pages of legalisations, authentifications, notarisation, and appostilisations are not valid either.

From what I've been told is that the city and country are what's in the default field, so someone forget to fill that in.

It sounds like the most Walter Mitty degree In existence. I hate to say it but it doesn't sound like it's going to do you much good. The time and money wasn't totally wasted though, it's taught you a valuable lesson:

If you want to invest in yourself through education then save up lots of money and get a degree from a reputable university.

Actually, it helped me get a job at one of the top unis here Smile And I'll be starting a degree this summer at Deakin, hopefully.

I emailed my uni and told them and they said that everyone makes mistakes, even me, since my email signature didn't list my first, middle, and three last names! Why in the world would I put my whole name on my email signature? Also, they said I had no reason to get upset. Lovely. And they said I should have known that Bagua was in Peru, which I did, I simply didn't know exactly where it is. Who would? Just beacuse you live in a country doesn't mean that you know where every city is. They also criticised me saying that "unprofessional" wasn't a word Smile

Smile funnily enough, the whole email was in Spanish, and it is a word, in both Spanish and English. I can't believe they critised my Spanish skils. The whole degree was in English, Spanish wasn't needed.
