Does anyone know if it's possible to get an internet connection in your home without a phone line. Possibly something wireless.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, it's possible...

The cheapest option is to contact your local cable company or hikari fibre company.

The optic fibre company "USEN" have been having a nationwide "campaign" recently... They have been offering free connection.

If you go into Sakuraya or Yodobashi Camera, you can also get another wireless card which slots into your computer and uses your mobile phone(? I think). It's called Air something... Sorry this is so vague... I know it is possible, but I don't know the details very well. Go into a big electronics store and they will tell you.

The wireless connection is called Air H, although there are other companies. The card is attached to an antenna. It is extremely slow. I used it for a few months while in between homes. It is also extremely difficult to get connected. The disc is only in Japanese. You have to have a Japanese OS to read it. You can do all the initual information on a Japanese computer and then enable it to work on an English OS later.

The one good thing I can say about it is that it is fun to surf the net while riding the shinkansen.

I'm currently using yahoo BB through a phone line. The area I live doesn't have fiber optic connections so it is only moderately fast.

Before I used a cable modem. I will be going back to it when I move to my new apartment. It's pretty fast and you don't need a phone line. It's also your cheapest option.

Yep - cable but it may not be available everywhere. It depends where you live I suppose. I have a cable internet service provider. It's really fast and it costs about 4000 yen a month.
