Hi there
I am a British citizen with CELTA and a bachelor's degree, looking to get my first teaching post in Taiwan. I have a friend I can stay with in Taipei so am planning to job-hunt on arrival.
In order to do this, would I need to get a visa in advance, and then convert it to a work permit once I find employment? If so, which visa should I go for?
Or would it be possible (and legal!) to arrive on the 90 day visa-free thing and get a work permit once I've found a job?
Which documents will I need.. do I need a plane ticket that returns within the 90 day period?
Thanks for your help! |

According to my school, UK teachers can come in on the 90-day visa and swap over to a legal working visa without any problem.
You do, however, need the return (or onward) ticket. |

I'm leaving for taipei in two days time. Im a UK citizen so I will qualify for the 90 day visa free entry. I arrive Jan 4th and have an onward flight booked to Thailand for Feb 14th. However, this is a return trip as I hope to pick up my work visa and return a week later on the 21st. My question is this. When I first enter the country on Jan 4th, will the border guys be bothered that I plan to re-enter the country a week after my onward flight? Should I disclose this information when I enter or just let them know about my outbound flight?
Thanks |
