Hello, minna-san!

The new posting for "Global English School" on the International board struck me as odd when I clicked on it. Sounded way too good to be true (perfect conditions, great pay and benefits, cheap rent!), so I clicked on their "recruit" webpage. MOD EDIT

The website is poorly designed (please click on "School Mission" to see what I mean!), so I dug up some information and found what looks to be (possibly) the REAL Global English School (although mostly in Japanese) here: http://www.ges-global.com/ though I may be wrong about that being real as well, because I can barely read kanji.

If you've heard of this school, or could give me some information on it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Those are two different schools with the same name.

The one with the English website is south of Nagoya, and the one with the all-Japanese website is in Narita (the city near the airport).

The cost of living IS cheaper in the countryside, so I know of no reason why it should be thought of as a scam.

I second the poster above. The offer doesn't seem suspect.

250,000/month is the standard pay for entry level jobs (although there are many advertisements for lower these days).

And 53,000/month rent is what I pay living in the middle of my small city. Further out in the country it is normal to pay even less. And if those are Leopalace apartments like mine, then yes, they have free internet too.

Now whether this a decent school to work for... can't help you there.

It was the layout of the website that irked me a little. Maybe I'm just spoiled by how well other schools have their websites designed and it made me a bit suspicious.

Thank you for the clarification, mspxlation. I was more worried about this than anything else. My Japanese reading skill is at <.01% right now, though I'm working on it. :)

I'll go back and re-read the listing, but after reading over 10 pages of threads in the last week, I've been a little hesitant to trust everything I see, ya know? Thanks so much for the help!

I know of the school in the Mie (south of Nagoya). It is a standard eikaiwa. Standard pay, housing, etc.

If you search through here, you can find people who used to work. Some of it is negative.

If you want more info, I can write a more detailed e-mail later.

Dated, but it might help. I do know that the outfit CONSTANTLY advertises, so that might be a red flag right there....
