Dear Ista Guapa,

I think one needs 100 posts before an avatar can be added. When 100 posts are reached, this should appear on your profile:

Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 80 pixels, the height no greater than 80 pixels, and the file size no more than 6 KB.

Current Image

Delete Image

Link to off-site Avatar:

Enter the URL of the location containing the Avatar image you wish to link to.

And that's how you do it.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
John

Dear John,

After I posted my query, I was thinking that maybe I didn't have enough posts to be able to add an avatar to my profile. I'll just have to keep on posting....

Thanks for the clear instructions!

Cheers,

La Isla

Members without 100 posts have avatars though, so maybe there is a trick to it

They may be long time members from before the 100 post rule - as the rule is relatively new, or it could be a software glitch that lets them in early. Cool

Dear Johnslat,

I have prospective avatar images saved in the My Pictures file in my laptop. My operating system is Word 2003. How do I assign a URL to the one I will eventually turn into my avatar?

Cheers,

Isla Guapa

Dear Isla Guapa,

While there may be a way to choose your avatar from photos stored on your computer, I'm afraid I'm too technically illiterate to know how to do so.

Unless, of course, the image you want is also located at a URL on the Net:

"Enter the URL of the location containing the Avatar image you wish to link to."

But maybe someone more savvy can help you out.

Regards,
John

Dear John,

The image I want to use as an avatar is not on a website with a URL, which is the cause of my predicament. Another poster more web-savvy than both of us put together has offered to help.

Cheers,

Marsha

This is simple IG. Find/make an avatar, then host it yourself on a site like www.photobucket.com.

That's how I am able to keep my groovy avatar w/o worrying that it'll be "yoinked" like my "Dancing Homer", "Pint of Guinness being poured" and other great ones that I've used over the centuries, but lost because the designer decided to pull them.

Hope this helps...
