Pretty dodgey folks. If you're new and can't spend your life fighting for your rights, I'd say it's a nasty situation. As it was, it took up a solid month, and now it's starting again. For 3800 yuan/month plus almost no bennies, what do you think? And there are 3 full time FAO's and 3 English teachers: one Native speaker. One near-Native speaker and one Filipino. Unfortunate back-biting, too, laughing at the teachers behind their backs. Veiled threats with police. So -- you decide...

They have a history, too, of firing people and not paying all the pay owing, granting only half-year resident permit when promised in the contract to give the entire year, late pays, and most recently a flat-out denial to sign a form required by Chinese law that they sign for a departing ft.

\
A barrage of harrassment like I'd never seen anywhere. Demands to sign Chinese stuff over and over and over and over and over until I wrote the Consul, etc. Refusal to pay the new ft's, too, the first month (though it is in our contract and everyone else had been paid) until the Consul conversation.

Other small stuff like refusing to make ANY xeroxes so the kids can learn, insisting they only discuss stuff, no visuals (unless provided by the ft).

I would be alarmed by any place that paid less than 5000, especially without "bennies". Surely anyone could do better.

Shandong Province pays 3800 for M.A.'s in govt. unis, plenty of places do this. Gansu pays 3000! I had to accept a job -- or so I thought -- with some stability; I had stuff to do, was too busy to apply any more. They had a gushing reference (beware of these elderly ft's who don't live in the real world...I'm 61, btw).

Shijiazhuang seems to pay this in other places, too. I agree: weird.
