I'm coming to Vietnam for ILA's CELTA course in September and hopefully finding a job in Vietnam after I complete the course. I was thinking of picking up this phone/SIM card before I head over:

It works out to about $5 a month after the initial $100 investment. I won't actually be using the phone very much, if at all, and really just want to have it for "just in case."

Would it be much cheaper to just get a phone and service after I arrive in the country?

Seems as if it is cheaper to pick one up here. There are a range of sims from 50,000 dong to 120.000

Thanks for the info; it does seem much cheaper to just pick up a SIM card in country. I'm sure there are probably stores right in the airport?

But, what about a phone. Mine won't work in Vietnam so I'll have to pick up a new one no matter what. The cheapest one I've found online is equivalent to about 1 million VND. Are there much cheaper ones available in country?

I did check the Vietnamese cell providers websites but they don't seem to have any useful information in English.

definitely buy one when you get here....i'm doing what you plan on doing at the moment and i just got one for like 60,000 at an overpriced tourist stop. the phone shouldn't be more than 150,000-200,000 dong, but if you want a good phone i recommend getting one at home and getting it 'unlocked' before you leave

60,000VND for a cell phone?? Wow....never seen them below 400,000VND here in Ha Noi.

But Lyon is 100% correct - buying the phone and SIM card together here in Viet Nam work out to be MUCH cheaper than this Queen Bee deal stuff.......
