Easy-going management and co-ordinators (mostly) who treated you as a pro. |

Do we really need another thread???? This was so earth shaking that you couldn't just include it with one of the other 3 or 4 or 5 threads?

Unprofessional management and co-ordinators (some, but I don't want to be too Specific...) who treated professional experienced teachers as morons.
Al Ain's nice, though. or used to be. |

I'm sure HCT will be a better fit for you, then. |

I guess this means a quiet beach town or a long commute out into the sand... ah well... could be worse... could be ADW.
Sorry...

Hey - Mr / Ms Sentiments I thought you didn't want another UGRU thread. What are you doing stalking this one? |

Gnocchiman - sorry to hear your news. Why do you think you were chosen for 'reassignment' (I've heard that's what they're calling it)? What criteria were the selectors working from? How many people does this affect?
On another thread you seemed so sure that this wouldn't happen ... It all seems so very sudden - when do you have to pack up and leave? Do you know where you'll be going?
I really feel for you - I don't know how long you've been here in the UAE, but the idea of having to think about packing up a household in what will be a very short time, would fill me with dread. I do hope you have support and help with this. |

I hear from others (PMs from non-posters) that people haven't been told where they will go yet... just that they will go. Originally they were told that they would be able to choose, but now they are being told that HCT decides. Tempers are short... Resignations are flying. The pubs are busy!!
It seems that they are mostly choosing singles first... or those that have issues with their managers. The rumor mill has shifted into overdrive.
This is a helluva of time of year to dump this on your teachers.

Yes, singles were apparently first on the list, followed by married couples without children. |

It is all still sinking in. Too much, too soon, too late in the year. But I take comfort knowing I am in good company. Some of the finest teachers I have ever worked with will be moving with me. Our only mistake was aging and doing so without a spouse. How sad these were the criteria; so shallow and cruel. When my head clears, and the flat packed up, I will focus on the positive aspects of all this. My years at UAEU were some of the best of my life so far. The end, not so much.
To all my colleagues/ my UGRU family: God bless you. |

I agree with you Gnocchiman, it's all too much and too soon. Horrific and cruel the way this was done.
I commend you for planning on focusing on the positive. We will all try and do the same. |

There's clearly some resentment that singles and childless couples are the first to be reassigned. I must say I have little sympathy with that view: families with children in school have to be far more careful about where they choose to go and work than single people and couples, as there are the needs of several people to consider. I don't think there's anything 'shallow or cruel' about taking that into consideration.
Plus parents are raising the generation that will look after all of us as we age. |
