Has anyone had any experiences with Fifth Wings? They are recruiting for ALTs in Japan. I can't find any official details about them (eg. no website, business no. etc). They are informal in their communications and seem unprofessional. |

Then that should be a sure fire hit not to trust them. I had the same problem with JALSS but they had a website but it was filled with spelling mistakes, replies were slow. No true information given also, and their email replies were unprofessional.....then i finally hit the gold mine on this forum seeing all of the complaints. |

I worked for Fifth Wings from April 2008 to March 2009 in Ota, Gunma. I found them to be quite supportive at times. You're right they DO seem casual in their communication but this is due to them being a rather small company. They serve mostly Ashikaga, Tochigi where they are based and the surrounding cities.
I think it just depends who you deal with at the company. While being recruited I dealt with a guy named Kevin who was very inconstant in his communication but once I got to Japan I was usually dealing with a woman named Ayako who was always helpful when I needed it, including helping me deal with police, doctors and hospitals when i was hit by a car. They provided me with a scooter (I was responsible for gas) and repaired it when necessary. I had the option of renting a car for 20,000 yen per month (they would pay work related gas). Though they provided me an apartment I soon found my own accommodation and they were supportive of that and even helped me move. They also provide opportunity to do extra work part time at their office in Ashikaga if you want to supplement your income. Overall I would say that my experience with Fifth was mostly positive (no company is going to be perfect) and would recommend working for them. Out of curiosity where are you going to be working? I know that Ota and Ashikaga have quite a large ALT population and Ota in particular has a community that hang out quite often. |

That sounds like a rather positive enforcement. Has anyone have any horror stories about Fifth Wings, either first-hand experience or through the grapevine?
I'm not trying to do any muckraking, rather I'd like to know more about them since info online is exceedingly scarce. I know they are a relatively small company so there aren't as may people griping about them. Other than the fact that they seem to have been around for a few years, searching the forums here and web has turned up little about them.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
