Let's cut to the chase here, where's the best place to go to earn money in the middle east? Including taking into consideration how easy it is to save and the cost of living as well as the actual earnings. I heard Saudi was worth it. I heard reports they will pay for your accomodation and some living expenses so you could save any money you made there. Is this right? |

You could try for a contract as a mercenary Iraq. I heard those pay pretty well. |

Nearly all decent employers in the Gulf pay for your accomodation (either by providing you with a place or giving you an allowance) and many will also provide transport to and from work. They should also cover your medical insurance and salaries are tax-free so yes, you can save a lot of money in the Gulf.
However, since you've not told us what your qualifications and credentials are, we can't say if you stand much chance of getting one of these jobs or not. |

I've got the 100 hour CELTA cert, a degree (Fine art, not education related) and 1 years experience teaching adults, privately and in classes and also children in school in Bangkok, which is where I live at the moment. So that's my qualifications. |

I haven't considered the mercenary option. I think the South Africans seem to do a bit of that. At least that's what a telly programme I saw said. |

robi, just by doing a quick scroll through the job ads offered in that area or by reading some of the posts in this forum you should have been able to figure it out that most jobs require an MA in TESL. |

I think the best thing for you to do, is get at least 2 or 3 years experience along with a DELTA/MA and then you will find youself in a much better position ...The Gulf isn't going anywhere
Good luck |

DELTA? MA? Hmmm, that's pretty disappointing. I presume work for the lesser qualified is still available for less money. What countries are easiest to save in? Or which ones are a good place to start looking? |

With your lack of qualifications and experience, you would have very few options and they would be at the bottom of the food chain. That means poor working conditions, few benefits, long hours, and only limited savings possibilities.
Some of the language schools will hire any warm body. You can read the descriptions of the general mistreatment all over these boards. Much depends on how desperate you are and how much abuse you wish to take to save a small bit of money.
If you don't want to get any further education, your next option would be to head to a country like Morocco, Egypt, Syria, or Jordan and spend a few years teaching Arabic speakers. With luck there you can make enough to support yourself, though you may have to hustle up private students to make ends meet. Three to five years of this kind of work would make you a bit more employable around the Gulf where you can get into a better entry level job and start saving. But, you still probably need an MA to get into any serious money.

All sounds a bit discouraging. Here in Thailand I'm making about 950 Euro a month which is pretty good for here anyway. I saw salaries in Saudi of about 2000 Euro a month plus benefits like accomadation on offer. Is this only for the ultra qualified then? |

Not sure what you mean by "ultra qualified" but, as others have said, the better paying jobs are usually in third-level institutions which require teachers with Masters' Degrees and relevant experience. Sure, you will find people with such jobs whose credentials aren't all that great, but they are the exception. I agree with the others: If you are seriously interested in working in the Gulf, get yourself a Master's (a DELTA is better than nothing but many Gulf employers have high pretensions and insist on "academic" qualifications).
That said, it's worth a try applying to some of the colleges. Like employers anywhere, they may accept people who don't meet their supposed requirements, depending on how badly they need someone at one particular time. |

No, the good employers who pay well naturally want 'qualified' teachers.' There is no 'ultra' here. Why is it that you think that you deserve to get the same pay and benefits as someone who actually made the time and paid the money to get the credentials and spent the years getting experience?
As Cleo said, go ahead and apply. The best places won't consider you, but you might get an offer. But you better check the place out VERY carefully because the chances are very high that it will be a real snake-pit with only minimally better pay than you are getting.
And if it is in Saudi, it would also be free of wine, women, and song...
