Are you taking a survey, or are you asking for help in writing your own cover letters? |

I'm guessing it's the latter reason, Glenski. There are duplicate threads from CP, on the General Discussion, and China Off-topic forums, that have "taken off" slightly more (but only just).
Seems to me to be a way of saying 'I really need a job in TEFL but haven't taken enough of an interest in it to stand much chance of landing such a job'.
I mean, what is the point of telling CP what it is that we believe makes us any good at this malarky (of not just writing cover letters but teaching English)? 'I' am not 'You', and 'I' wouldn't want or like 'You' to perhaps assume and pretend otherwise! And even if it were just a matter of cover letter style, that too is a personal thing for which one should ideally develop and use an individual approach.
Sorry if any of that sounds harsh, but I have never asked (that is, never needed to ask) anyone to help me with job applications. And what do you know, I think that (that self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and ultimately self-knowledge) is what helps one find jobs that one will be satisfied with (and more importantly, halfway capable of doing). Of course, landing any job is a bit chicken and egg if you lack quite the experience, but that experience has simply (i.e. simply has!) to be accrued and therefore earnt...eventually one accrues enough to have something (assuming one had absolutely nothing before - but as if one wouldnt be able to think of something!) to write about.

Go easy guys- to a lot of folks, this whole "malarkey" is sort of new and scary.
But, OP- Do tell us what you're asking. You say you're a newbie, needing help. THat's fine. Help doing what?
If an experienced teacher completes your sentences, it won't give you a lot...your answers would be different.
Best,

I hope that a prospective employer isn't requiring the OP to complete those particular statements, particularly the first one. If so, then the key is to figure out what the employer is looking for. Here's how I would handle them:
1. I have experience that will help me to be a great teacher. As indicated on my curriculum vitae, I have a long history of providing training/instruction to adults in a variety of contexts and have taught elementary school children. I have been trained in various teaching methodologies and can easily adapt instruction to the students.
2. I will be able to teach all ages groups because I have a history of doing so in various contexts. In addition, my TESL training has included methodologies that can be applied to both adults and children.
It may or may not be what the employer is looking for. |
