Almost every website offering some sort of ESL teacher training has promised support in finding a job (several even guarantee employment after completion). From everyone here's experience, are they really that helpful in finding you a decent job? |

Nope. You should stick to the schools that DON'T make promises to find you work. Teaching House in NY where I took my CELTA, for instance, was very helpful with HOW to look for work (classes on CVs, interviews, and a visit to a NY esl mill) but didn't really promise to hook you up with specific jobs. |

Reputable courses can put you in touch with local schools, or may have good contacts in some other countries - but the real job-search-interview-example lesson-contract negotiation process is always yours alone.
It can help a lot to take a course in the country where you want to start working. Training in-country offers you a great chance to get your feet wet in the country/culture while you still have a support system they usually arrange for your housing during the course, airport pickup, and local orientation. Your practice teaching students will really be representative of those youll be working with when you start. You can be sure that your certification will be recognized by local employers, and a training centre can give you invaluable contacts and advice regarding reputable local employers. |

They can't gaurantee jobs per se. They could guarantee interviews, but it's up to you to pass. The only job they could promise you is working for them. |
