hey guys,

i had to leave the country and move back home and will soon be receiving my salary. that being said, how do you transfer money from a japan post national bank account to an American bank account? can i have someone in Japan withdraw the money and then send it to me? can my prior employer deposit it overseas to my American bank account? what would be the best, most cost effective way?

To America? Post Office Money Order is the most cost effective.

GoLloyd's is designed for foreigners who don't know any better or care - if you can access it and don't care about rate and fees. Xe.com is slow & mildly complex to set up, but fast and cheap and good rates once that's done. Failing all that, conventional wire transfer from yr Jpn account to the US. Depending on the banks involved, the fees can be less than GoLloyd's (which is just a wire transfer anyway).

If your former boss (or someone else) has yr hanko then they do anything they want with yr account.
