|
|
I am in discussions with this school in Konya city called Kardil-School of English studies.
I do not know much about the TEFL situation in Turkey, please help??
Are 40 hour weeks normal for a contract?
What is the cost of living like, compared to, say, the USA?
Is it unreasonable to ask for a housing allowance rather than the provided shared accommodations?
What is an average monthly salary in Turkey? They are offering $1100 USD per month.
Thanks! |

40 hours per week for 1100 USD? Run far and fast in the other direction. 25-30 hours per week for 1500-2000 USD is more the normal. |

Even if that includes prep and grading, etc. 1100 USD is not enough! That is only 1700 TL. Rent (if you share a flat) is going to be around 500-700 TL per month.
I have lived here for almost 3 years now and I have almost no debt and I share a flat. In my opinion, you need at least 1500 USD per month unless you have zero debt and spend almost no money on eating out or entertainment.
If they provide housing or at least 300-400 TL housing stipend, then that is different. |

Any response from Kardil regarding the hours? I've recently applied there as well so I will be interested to hear what they say.
Thanks! |

Yikes could you really afford to live there with such a low salary, even with rent included. My job offered me double that with housing too and I still have reservations. I hope you would be able to tutor or teach extra classes for some more cash. |

yes I finally heard back from them, and it's 40 contact hours per week, plus you only get 1 day off a week. So, I don't think this is a very good job to accept. |
